THE IOHIO APPRECIATES YOUR SUPPORT

Since its founding nine years ago, the IOHIO has been actively involved with the Oaxacan historic organs. We are most gratified by the progress we have made in preserving the organs, understanding them in both their past and present contexts, and insisting that they be included among the Mexican cultural properties at risk. Our efforts have been facilitated by an extensive support network, both personal and institutional, a reputation for excellence and hard work, and knowledge of how to get the job done in Oaxaca. There is still a long way to go, but the issues and their solutions have become increasingly clear. We are excited and challenged by what we can achieve during the coming year.

The IOHIO is most fortunate to receive support from the Alfredo Harp Helú Foundation Oaxaca to cover many of our expenses, but the Foundation does not cover everything. Funding for special projects must be supplemented from alternative sources. We realize that this is as difficult a time for donors as it is for projects supported by donations, but we hope you will consider making a contribution to the IOHIO so that the following projects may continue on schedule:

                                             ONGOING PROJECTS

  • Documentation, conservation, and maintenance of the 69 Oaxacan organs registered to date
  • Organization of concerts presented by invited artists, IOHIO organists and scholarship students, young Mexican organists fulfilling scholarship requirements.
  • Teaching local people to play and maintain the organs (scholarships cover the cost of the classes and transportation)
  • Archive research to understand the history of the organs
  • Analysis of historic material related to the organs (documents, scores, other antique instruments) discovered during visits to the organs

                             FUTURE PUBLICATIONS AND RECORDINGS

  • Technical register (data base) of the 69 Oaxacan organs for the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (INAH) which will be posted in concise form on this web page.
  • Book about the Oaxacan organs compiling ten years of IOHIO work
  • Book about the Oaxacan nun Sor María Clara del Santísimo Sacramento and her family (a Oaxacan dynasty of organists and organbuilders); CD of the music from Clara´s notebook.
  • Monograph by IOHIO archive researcher Ricardo Rodys about the organs, organists, and organbuilders of the Oaxaca Cathedral
  • CDs of selected Festival concerts

                                                       NEW PROJECTS

Organs and related historic material are still being discovered in Oaxaca, which makes the IOHIO´s work especially important. Whether your interest is in the historic organs or in such related fields as early music, baroque church art, Spanish colonial history, archive research, Oaxacan culture, protection and conservation of historic heritage, or music education, you may be assured that any contribution will make a difference. Thank you for supporting the IOHIO.
